Remote Admin Repair Utility

Top  Previous  Next

Successful remote management needs access to the following resources on the target computer:

ADMIN$ share - This is a folder share that exists by default on all Windows computers. It is needed to copy the installer files to the target computer.

Service Control Manager - This is used to execute the installer.

There are many things which can prevent access to these resources over the network such as firewall rules and security settings. If you run into a situation with a failed installation you may want to run Remote Admin Repair Utility which is included with PDQ Inventory. It's a small utility that you can take to the target computer and run. It will look for any problems that it can fix and optionally fix them. It won't fix every problem, but it will get the most common.

You can find the executable in the PDQ Inventory program files folder.

Note The utility requires that the target computer have Microsoft .NET 4 installed.
