Creating Collections by Duplicating

The Collection Library and prebuilt collections are great resources for learning how to creating your own collections. Any collection can be duplicated to use as the basis for new collections.

This section includes procedures that explain how to duplicate dynamic, static, and Collection Library collections.

To duplicate a dynamic or static collection:

1.On the main console tree, select a collection.

2.Right-click and select Duplicate (or click File > Duplicate or press Alt+Insert).

A duplicate collection appears below the original at the same level on the tree with a number appended to the collection name.

NOTE: If the collection being duplicated has nested collections, all of the nested collections will also be duplicated but only the top collection will have a number appended to its name.

3.Edit the collection name, description, and filters as needed.

For editing details, see Dynamic Collections or Static Collections.

To duplicate a Collection Library collection:

1.On the main console tree, browse the Collection Library and select a collection (or set of collections).

You can duplicate multiple collections by selecting more than one collection or by selecting a set of collections. For example, you can duplicate all the IE collections in the library by selecting and duplicating the Internet Explorer collection. For convenience, we discuss a single "collection" in this procedure.

2.To create a new duplicate of the collection, do one of the following:

Click and drag the collection to another location on the tree.

NOTE: As you drag the selected collection over a legal location on the tree, the icon on the selection changes to a green checkmark .

A duplicate collection, with the same name, description, and filters appears on the tree.

Copy (click Edit > Copy or right-click and select Copy or press Ctrl+C), select a location on the tree, then Paste (click Edit > Paste or right-click and select Paste or press Ctrl+V).

A duplicate collection, with the same name, description, and filters appears on the tree below the selected location.

3.Edit the collection name, description, and filters as needed.

For editing details, see Dynamic Collections.

NOTE: Collections in the library often utilize System Variables for their filters. To be sure that collections based on duplicated Collection Library collections continue to be updated by Admin Arsenal, don't change or remove the system variables used in the filters. If you re-purpose these collections for different applications, we recommend you create and use custom variables or hard-coded filters. For details, see Variables in Value Filters.
