Target Lists

Target lists allow you to define sets of targets to be used for deployments and schedules. These lists can include computers and linked targets (links to other objects that get updated automatically).

Target lists aren't required but they can make using the system easier.  They can be used by dragging and dropping a package onto them or by selecting them with the targets editor.

Not only do target lists store lists of computers, but they can link to other objects so that when the target list is used it will have the most current list of targets available (see Linked Targets below).

Computer Targets

Computer targets are single computers identified by name. Any number of these can be added to a target list.

Importing Computer Targets

Lists of computers can be imported from a number of sources such as text files and Active Directory, see the targets editor for more information.

Linked Targets

A linked target connects to a container of computers in another program (or to another target list within PDQ Deploy). When the computers are updated in the linked object, the target list is automatically updated.

For example, a link can be made to an Active Directory group so that when computers are added to or removed from the group the changes are reflected in the target list.

The link to another object can be broken if certain changes are made in the other application. For example, renaming or moving a group in Active Directory won't break a link, but deleting and recreating the group with the same name will.

See targets editor for more information on the types of links that can be used.

Working with Target Lists

Target lists are created from the main window using the New Target List menu item or button. They can also be duplicated, imported & exported, and moved between folders.

Target lists are edited using the target list window and viewed using the target list page in the Main Window.
