Overview >

File Copy Mode

When files (such as packages) need to be copied to a target PDQ Deploy will use either pull or push (by default PDQ Deploy uses Pull Copy Mode). Each method has strengths and weaknesses.

The method used can be set in the preferences and all packages will use this method unless overridden in the package options.

Push Copy Mode

Files are copied to the target computers from the computer where the PDQ Deploy is installed. This method is best if the package files are located on the PDQ Deploy computer.

When using bandwidth throttling the setting will apply to all of the simultaneous file copies combined.

Pull Copy Mode

Note: Pro Mode is required for using Pull Copy Mode.

PDQ Deploy sends lists of files to the target computers which are then pulled down.  This method works best when dealing with WANs and other situations where the files are more readily accessible to the target computers, such as when the files are on a file server closer to the target computers than the computer where PDQ Deploy is running.

UNC File Paths

For this method to work all files need to be accessible using a UNC path (e.g. \\server\share\installer.msi). Files on local or mapped drives will not be accessible to the target computers.

Mapped Drive Letters

Do not use mapped drive letters to file paths as these will not be available within the remote service.  It may be possible for them to be converted to UNC paths, but it is best to not count on this functionality.

Note Bandwidth throttling is not enforced when using Pull Copy Mode.
