Background Service

Top  Previous  Next

PDQ Inventory uses a Windows Service running in the background in order to perform tasks.  This allows for Scanning and Heartbeats to run even when the console is closed and the user is logged out.

The service is named PDQInventory and can be managed through the console or with the standard Windows administrative tools.

Starting and Stopping

The service should rarely need to be stopped, though for troubleshooting it can be accomplished either by using the background service preferences or by using services.msc.

Credentials

The service requires the credentials of an administrator in order to access the network. The first set of credentials entered when installing will be used, but they can be changed in the background service preferences.
